The Third Limfjord Connection is part of the Danish Infrastructure Plan 2035 and includes a 20-kilometre motorway west of Aalborg via the island of Egholm. The motorway will pass beneath the Limfjord in an immersed tunnel, cross Nørredyb on a low bridge, and span Østerådalen on a valley bridge.
A key aspect of the project is the coordination of the overall architectural design, including the design of ramps, tunnel and portal buildings, and noise barriers, ensuring a coherent and highquality visual expression across the entire connection.
Compensation habitats will be established one to two years before construction begins to allow endangered species
to relocate to new habitats. Wildlife corridors will also be created so animals can cross the motorway safely. In addition, a range of mitigation measures will be implemented during construction to protect local flora and fauna.Prior to construction, preliminary analysis for the crossing were carried out. These investigations examined the route alignment, intersecting roads, stormwater basins, potentially contaminated areas, and potential raw material extraction sites.
Construction is expected to commence in 2027 and be completed in 2034.
