In Hamburg, the Arne Jacobsen Haus is now taking shape: the newly developed facade is being installed at the former HEW headquarters, originally designed by Arne Jacobsen.
A deteriorating facade is being replaced, while new spaces — including the Sitzungssaal for Bezirksversammlung Hamburg-Nord and a rooftop terrace — are carefully integrated.
Developed for this listed building, the facade reinterprets Arne Jacobsen’s original design — carefully balancing preservation with today’s standards for energy and comfort. Its innovation lies in the precision: proportions, materials and detailing are calibrated to retain the building’s identity while upgrading its performance.
As client advisor, Dissing+Weitling works closely with KSP ENGEL and the Hamburg heritage authorities to ensure the architecture remains true to Jacobsen’s vision.
The Arne Jacobsen Haus shows that preservation and innovation can go hand in hand — with the right ambition, expertise, and collaboration.
