Dissing+Weitling’s design of the University Bridge is part of the development of the inner harbour in Malmö. The solution respects Malmö's historical lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbour adjacent to the Central Railway Station in Malmö.
In order to minimise the thickness of the bridge deck and maintain the open character of the harbour, we designed the swing span as a cable-stayed structure. The 77-metre long cable-stayed bridge rests on a hemispherical concrete pivot pier, which gives the impression of floating on the water. The two pylons are topped by lanterns in translucent acrylic.
