The future bridge will provide the many new residents of Teglholmen in Sydhavnen with easier access to the green areas of Amager Fælled. At the same time, it will offer residents of Islands Brygge Syd access to destinations such as the school in Sydhavnen.
There is a need for the bridge to be an opening structure, allowing sailing vessels and other tall ships to pass.
The preliminary study explores four alternative alignments and addresses key architectural and technical considerations. These include operational aspects, such as the benefits and limitations of various types of opening bridges.
Furthermore, geometric conditions and landing areas have been carefully analyzed to ensure efficient cyclist flow, uphold traffic safety, and evaluate potential impacts on the harbour environment.
The study also considers financial and scheduling parameters and presents an overall risk assessment for the City of Copenhagen.
The outline proposal forms the basis for the City of Copenhagen’s consideration in the 2021 budget process and for approval by the City Council.
