Dissing+Weitling designed the Education and Research Building at Copenhagen University Science campus, formerly known as The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural College. The building is situated in Frederiksberg – contrasting with the unique historical centre, with the Agricultural College as its focal point.
With its modern exterior, featuring a slightly curved aluminium-clad facade, the research building contrasts with the historic building complex, forms a natural termination to the existing building complex, and marks a new main entrance.
The auditoriums present themselves as independent building volumes, creating a varied rhythm of transparent and closed surfaces facing both the entrance area and the garden belt.
Space for learning and socialising
The central entrance hall functions as a meeting place for the whole area, with lounge areas at different levels in close connection to the auditoriums. Skylights create a pleasant light and from the lounge area there is a view and access to the planted inner courtyard.
The building includes teaching facilities, auditoriums, group room for students as well as offices, research laboratories and teaching laboratories. From the offices, there are views over the Agricultural College's garden.
